Concrete Solutions
Tarmac produces a large range of conventional ready-mixed concretes, but we also produce a wide range of specialist concrete products and services:
We ensure all our products are well researched and that all testing systems are in place not only to deliver our customers the concrete they require but to also deliver solutions to the challenges presented by their projects.
Toproc - high performance microsilica concrete
Toproc is the brand name for Tarmac's family of high performance microsilica concretes. Each individual Toproc mix is designed to achieve certain performance characteristics relevant to a specific application.
For example, Toproc SY is designed to give maximum resistance to impact and abrasion e.g. required in waste transfer stations, whereas Toproc CR is designed to resist chemical attack.
Tarmac is the first to market with its own BBA certificated range of high strength concretes.
Why microsilica?
Each Toproc mix: incorporates microsilica as the strength-enhancing additive. It is the incorporation of microsilica that distinguishes Toproc from conventional ready-mixed concrete. Microsilica is an established material; proven to enhance certain aspects of concrete performance including abrasion, impact resistance, strength and durability.

Fibre Reinforced Concrete containing polypropylene macro fibres for pre and post crack control enables civil engineering contractors to replace steel fabric reinforcement in external/internal horizontal and vertical concrete applications e.g. floors, hollow ribbed decking and retaining walls.
What does Fibre reinforced concrete offer?
Fibre reinforced concrete offers a faster build technique enabling contractors to handover sites more quickly. It improves site safety by removing trip hazards when handling steel fabric. There are also no steel fabric deliveries to site, cranes are not required and there is no manual handling involved.
IIt also cuts out the issue of steel fabric being misplaced at site level, with the addition of macro fibres customers are assured the reinforcement is distributed evenly throughout the mix thus making it more effective in reducing the risk of plastic and drying shrinkage cracking.

Tarmac has developed a range of eco-friendly concretes suitable for oversites and footings, with a range of options based on locally available materials in your area.
Advantages of Eco-friendly Concrete
These types of concrete will enable developers to design with energy efficiency in mind both in terms of running costs over the building's lifetime but also in terms of embodied energy in the materials used. The Code for Sustainable Homes was published in December 2006 by the Department for Communities and Local Government, further reinforcing the government's intentions to drive change through the building sector to adopt more environmentally friendly techniques and materials. Recently Gordon Brown announced 3 Million homes are to be built over the next 13 years with low carbon technologies at the heart of this build programme. Using eco-friendly concretes are a step in the right direct to reaching this goal.
