Tarmac lays new car park at Harry Potter castle
Tarmac, working for Northumberland Estates, has just completed the construction of a new car park at Alnwick Castle in Northumberland.
Alnwick Castle, which is the second largest inhabited castle in England, has been a film location for Harry Potter, Elizabeth, Becket and Blackadder.
The car park was built using Tarmac's drystone, concrete and coated macadam products. The aggregate for the parking areas and surface dressing system was specified as a 10mm buff-coloured gravel to ensure an aesthetic match with the castle walls. The specialist gravel was supplied from Tarmac's Scorton quarry.
The £300,000 project was handed over to Northumberland Estates on 22 February.
