Topforce fibre reinforced concrete being laid

Asda's mezzanine shopping floor using Topforce

The development of a £15m Asda superstore in South Shields has just been completed. The store comprises a mezzanine floor, underground parking and will have a 40,000 sq ft sales area.

Tarmac's Solution

The store includes a mezzanine shopping floor which required a concrete that could meet industry standards as well as enabling the contractor to complete the floor surface at a faster rate. The Engineer specified a Richard Lees decking system. The system needed 650m3 of fibre reinforced concrete that met all the design requirements, Topforce was chosen to complete the floor. By using Topforce in the project it enabled the contractor to complete the mezzanine floor quicker than using traditional steel fabric. Topforce offers a faster build method; with no need to fix steel fabric it can save one day fixing or three man days on fixings per 100m3 job.

Concrete Performance

Topforce is a concrete mixed with high strength, high modulus macro-synthetic fibres that remove the need for steel reinforcement. It has been developed to cover most internal, horizontal and vertical applications where steel may previously have been used.
