Project Brief

Floor area of approximately 2000m2 of nominally 140 mm thick concrete slab on a permanent metal deck with a floated finish. Concrete to receive a Degussa - methyl methacrolite based resin floor finish. Tarmac Limited to provide a concrete that can receive a resin topping in circa seven days allowing a significant reduction
in contract programme duration. Concrete to be placed in two pours by pump, each of approximately 110m3 during April 2003.

Toproc ED Performance

The early drying performance of Toproc ED was assessed by the insitu testing of the concrete placed on 1st and 2nd April 2003. The concrete was tested following the removal of the spray-on curing membrane, with a hydrometer in accordance with BS8203: 2001. The requirement for 80% relative humidity was achieved at 9 days.

Tarmac Proposal

Toproc ED - a microsilica concrete that typically achieves a relative humidity below 75%, when assessed in accordance with BS8203: 2001, within 7 - 21 days of placing. The actual rate of drying, as with all concretes is dependent upon a number of factors including - depth of section, ambient temperature, relative humidity of the air at the concrete surface during drying and the type of surface finish applied to the concrete. The use of good site practices optimises the drying time.
