Sustainability
Sustainability at Tarmac
Sustainability is extremely important to Tarmac.
In fact, it is central to our strategy, governing the way we run our business and the way we interact with our employees, communities, the environment, our customers and our suppliers, as well as to the way we develop the products and services we offer.
So why does it matter?
Sustainability matters because it is central to our collective long-term future. Not just for the financial success of Tarmac, but also for the communities in which we work and the environment upon which we all rely. It influences how we work at every level of our business.
We believe that focusing on sustainability is key to our long-term success.
Statement from Tarmac Limited’s Head of Sustainability, Dr Martyn Kenny
“As a society we face a number of key sustainability challenges. How Tarmac meets these current and emerging issues is a continually evolving process and I believe that we have made good progress in our understanding and response. However, we recognise that there is more to be done and our new Sustainability Framework will help us to identify key priorities and drive improvement."
What is Sustainability?
The classic definition of sustainability or sustainable development is:
‘meeting the needs to today, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’.
Essentially, it’s about striking a careful and lasting balance between economic needs, environmental protection and social progress.
What is Tarmac doing for sustainability?
In 2009, we introduced Tarmac’s Sustainability Framework. This framework identified four key sustainability themes and laid out targets, measures and guidelines for us to follow to achieve our sustainability goals within each of these four areas. See more:
