Local Tarmac employee does the four seasons hike for charity
A Tarmac employee dug deep into his energy reserves once again when he took part in a sponsored 17-mile-hike in the Peak District - for the fifth time!
Andy Smith, proposals engineer, based at Tarmac's National Contracting head office, South Normanton, recently joined 1,600 people for the event to raise over £300 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF). He has also previously raised money for this worthy charity by doing 10-mile sponsored walks at Calke Abbey and Staughton Harold Reservoir.
"Myself, my wife Rachael and my mother-in-law walk and hike as a hobby so we don't actually have to do any specific training," said Andy. "I've supported the British Heart Foundation ever since I first saw their advert in a local charity shop. Since then, my awareness of heart disease and research has increased and I believe the work they do is vital and could benefit any of us at any time."
It's not just the BHF that Andy supports - he regularly contributes to the RSPCA, Children in Need and Comic Relief. He even has an annual subscription to Care in the Wild International and ...wait for it ... sponsors an Orangutan named Violet!
Andy is still collecting sponsorship for his trek. If you'd like to contribute, please contact him on 07920 441048.
